Product Care

Professional tools can last you a very long time with proper care. Given that products like brushes, tools, sponges and puffs come into frequent contact with skin, it is important to regularly clean them for optimal skin health.

Brush Cleaning:

Brushes in personal use can be easily maintained by daily spot cleaning and detailed weekly cleaning.

Professional makeup artists must ensure that brushes are not re-used across different clients. There are several quick-cleaning sprays, liquids and soaps (including ProKit brush cleaning soap) for cleaning and disinfecting your brushes.

Pro tip: Have multiple brush sets ready to go, so that you can cater to multiple clients without having to clean your brushes in between.

Important: Use high-quality natural cleaning soaps or liquids. Brush sanitisers usually have a high alcohol content that can damage your brushes over a long period of time. You can prolong the life of your brushes considerably by using high-quality brush cleaners that use natural ingredients.

How To Deep-Clean Your Brushes:

  • Wet the bristles in lukewarm water and apply cleaning soap or shampoo.
  • Washing gently, use small circular motions to swirl the brush on your palm or a makeup brush scrubber mat to loosen residues.
  • Rinse the brush and repeat if necessary.
  • Apply a bit of conditioner to the brush and rinse again - this is necessary to keep the natural bristles hydrated.
  • Use paper towel to gently remove excess water from the brush while remoulding the bristles to their original shape.

Important: Never leave brushes to dry out with the bristles facing upward - dripping water can seep into the ferrule, loosing the glue holding it together which can permanently misshape the brush. It's recommended that you use brush guards while drying the brushes to help retain their shape as well as extending their life.

  • Lay the brushes flat on a microfibre cloth or cotton towel and leave them to dry overnight.
  • If the bristles lose their shape, wash them as described above and use a brush guard when drying overnight.
  • Ferrule of the brush can be cleaned with a dry towel or 70% alcohol swab.

Important: Liquid makeup products leave more residue on brushes as compared to powder-based makeup. When using liquid makeup, make sure you clean your brushes after every use.

Sponge & Puff Cleaning:

  • Soak your sponge in lukewarm water - it will expand and allow the soap to clean out every spot.
  • Add a small amount of liquid or soap cleaner to the sponge/puff once wet.
  • Using small circular motions, gently rub the lathered sponge/puff on the palm of your hand to remove makeup residue.
  • Repeat until it's thoroughly clean.
  • Make sure sponges and puffs are completely dry before storing them back in your kit.

Tools & Accessories Cleaning:

For all metal and leather tools, clean and disinfect with 70% Alcohol wipes, swabs or spray only.
